We support Quark XPress & Adobe PageMaker Documents. Follow the appropriate instructions for installing the PPD file:
Quark XPress (Recommended)
Download the PPD, .ppd which we the web printer can supply upon reqest.
Place the file in this folder on your computer: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM for the Pc.
Here is a step by step guide to prepare you for sending files to us if you are using a Mac to produce your documents!
In the Apple environment, there is no need to install a PostScript printer. You just need to make sure that you use the default LaserWriter X printer. If you do not have the LaserWrite X printer in your chooser, you can request it and we will provide it.
You will then need to place it here: HARDDRIVE \SYSTEM \EXTENSIONS
Although we currently support Quark and Indesign source files, we strongly recommend that if you send pdfs make sure that you embedd all fonts and that it is correct PDF documents created in Adobe Acrobat. If you are writing PDFs, Download or request a Job Options file we reccommend. Once downloaded, you will need to place it in your Adobe Settings Folder.
If you installed Acrobat using the default settings, it should be located in this path:
C:\ Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat x.0 \ Distiller \ Settings The x will either be a 6 or a 7
depending on what version you are running.)
After the file is copied, follow these steps:
Open Acrobat Distiller Open Acrobat Distiller
Under Job Options, set to a specific option of your choice.
On the menu bar, click SETTINGS / JOB OPTIONS
Under the GENERAL tab, ensure that Compatibility is set to Acrobat 4.0.
If the folder is not located here, you will need to locate the folder manually or by using the search engine. You will know it is the correct folder because at a minimum it will have files named ebook, press, print, & screen.
Tools / Options / Save. Check "Embed True Type fonts" before saving, but
be aware that some fonts are not embeddable. The foolproof method is to
copy the desired font from C: \Windows\ Fonts and send it as a separate
file which the recipient can install on their system before opening the
document.
You can download the free Font Properties Extension utility from
http://www.microsoft.com/ typography/ property/ property.htm
then right-click any font file and choose Properties to view lots of
additional info, including the font's embeddability status.
1. SCAN/SAVE
Scanning resolution is usually twice the output line screen. A resolution of 300 dpi or close is ideal when
scanning color and grey scale materials. B/W art should be scanned not higher than 600 dpi. Text should
be at 400 dpi. Always scan at 100% of the final size of your document.
2. COLOR MODES
No RGB images. RGB is used for viewing images on a monitor. Please convert to and save all your images
in CMYK mode. Your images will not output properly if your files are not set up in CMYK.
